Exploring the Quieter Side of Vanlife

As the vibrant festival season kicks off, campervan enthusiasts from far and wide gathered at Campervan Campout, an early-season starter festival presented by Warners Shows. Held from 5th to 7th May 2023 at the South of England Event Centre in West Sussex, this festival promised a unique celebration of vanlife and a chance to connect with fellow creators and music lovers.

A Musical Oasis in the Countryside

From the moment we arrived, the air was filled with the sounds of live music. Campervan Campout provided a diverse lineup of talented artists with performances starting at 11 am and lasting until 10 pm each day. The renowned Trunk of Funk legend Craig Charles took the stage with an electrifying DJ set. We enjoyed the music while relaxing in our chairs, sipping cold beers from the bar. It was a blissful escape from the chaos of everyday life.

Embracing the Vanlife Community

Campervan Campout was more than just a music festival; it was a gathering of like-minded individuals sharing their experiences and expertise. The Vanlife Hub was a bustling centre for bloggers, vloggers, and podcasters to share their stories and offer valuable advice. We discovered new travel destinations, learned about camper van conversions, and connected with fellow enthusiasts who shared our passion for vanlife.

A Tranquil Haven for Wellness

A Wellness Sanctuary beckoned us to escape the noise and find inner tranquillity within the festival grounds. We were delighted to find an array of free talks, workshops, and activities to rejuvenate the mind and body. From meditation sessions to yoga classes, there was something for everyone seeking a moment of introspection and self-care. We took the opportunity to unwind, leaving the stress of daily life behind.

Exploring Campervan Alley and the Shopping Village

Campervan enthusiasts were treated to a mesmerizing display of vehicles in Campervan Alley. Local and national dealers and convertors showcased their finest creations, enticing us with possibilities for our campervan dreams. The Shopping Village offered a treasure trove of gadgets, accessories, and everyday essentials tailored to enhance the vanlife experience. We meandered through the stalls, stocking up on innovative tools and unique finds that would make our journey even more enjoyable.

A Gastronomic Delight

Food enthusiasts were in for a treat at Campervan Campout’s Artisan Food & Drink section. Local and international producers delighted our taste buds with an exquisite selection of culinary delights. From homemade pies to locally distilled gins and award-winning ciders, the festival celebrated the art of gastronomy. The Street Food court also offered tasty options from around the UK, ensuring that every craving was satisfied.

Unleashing Creativity in the Self-Build Showcase

For those seeking inspiration for their own campervan conversions, the Self-Build Showcase provided a fascinating display of innovation and craftsmanship. We marvelled at the ingenuity and creativity of fellow campervan enthusiasts who transformed their vehicles into stunning mobile homes. The showcase was a testament to self-building’s limitless possibilities, inspiring us to embark on even more vanlife projects.

Festive Thrills and Gin Delights

As the sun set, we ventured into the Fairground, embracing our inner child with spins on the carousel and exhilarating rides down the helter-skelter. Campervan Campout thoughtfully included activities for children and the young at heart. And for those seeking a more sophisticated indulgence, the Gin Festival, in collaboration with Gin Jamboree, offered a curated selection of 100 flavoured spirits, delighting gin enthusiasts with their aromatic allure.

Reflections on Campervan Campout

Although Campervan Campout catered to a family-friendly atmosphere and a more relaxed crowd, it was not without its charms. The festival provided a unique platform for vanlife enthusiasts to connect, share their journeys, and immerse themselves in live music. The silent disco, hosted by VDub Radio, proved to be a highlight of our experience, with DJs setting the barn ablaze as we danced the night away. However, it’s important to note that the festival strictly enforced a noise curfew, which created a more subdued ambience, with silence reigning by 10.15 pm.

Campervan campout festival review Conclusion: A Festival for the Mindful Wanderer

Campervan Campout, with its diverse range of activities and tranquil setting, proved to be a haven for those seeking a quieter getaway or a family-oriented experience. While it may not satisfy the cravings of partygoers and night owls, it delighted the more discerning travellers, the shoppers, and those looking for a respite from the chaos of everyday life. Not one we’ll go to again, but worth a visit if you’re looking for a mellower experience.
